What do we do?

MAHC offers a mix of structured and unstructured activities. We are a member-driven organization, and we seek feedback and adjust our offerings to the needs of our families.

Cooperative Program

We currently meet on Mondays in a lovely indoor/outdoor space at The Farm at Awbury Arboretum. Our mornings begin with classes led by outside instructors, and then we divide into smaller classes led by parent teachers. This allows us to get to know each family and their talents, backgrounds, and passions. Each week we have a teaching assistant and a general helper who support the classes. Caregivers stay on site but are free to relax or work when they are not signed up for a volunteer role. Our last hour is spent in free play and enjoying lunch with friends. MAHC offers several social days over the course of the year during co-op such as a handmade market, Halloween parade, and field days. We also organize occasional workshops for caregivers.

More information can be found in our handbook. Please read it before applying for membership.

Sister Program: Democracy Day

In spring 2023, MAHC began a pilot program inspired by the Democratic Free School movement for current members. During these half-day sessions, kids take the reins in collective decision-making and program creation and leadership. Some adults are on-hand to facilitate as needed or requested. In Fall 2023 Democracy Day will be its own independent program. Please click here and kindly send a request for more information!
